The Museum of Scottish Railways

The Museum of Scottish Railways wanted to move a selection of railway objects from two private collections based in Birmingham and Darlington to their storage facility in Baroness, West Lothian, Scotland.

Surveying/Quotation Process

The Museum sent over photographs and full details of the items to be moved and with this information we produced a written fixed quotation, including the option of comprehensive insurance. It also contained a detailed schedule and advised what to expect, to ensure that the move went smoothly.

Move details

The collection consisted of cast iron signal company instruments, tablet/token instruments, control instruments and a range of smaller historic items. There was also a large station sign, and large enamel signs that required moving.

The solution

The removals and transportation project went to plan, thanks to our specialist heritage and museum moving experience. The signs were expertly soft wrapped for safe transport, whilst the heavier cast iron objects were blanket wrapped and safely secured within the vehicle. All objects were handled with care and attention, and the move efficiently executed in line with the client’s requirements. There were no reported losses or damages.

What the client said

“Every moment of dealing with Jamie Briggs Removal & Storage Ltd was great. Initially, finding a company to help us move a large and cumbersome railway signaling collection was problematic, but Dawn and the team came to our rescue. It was important to not only find a company to move these items, but to know that they would be moved with care.

Every step of the way the team was brilliant and put our mind at ease. On the day of  moving the team arrived on time, were professional and really knew their stuff. Not only
did they put us as curatorial staff at ease, but the donor of the collection too. Delivery and transfer to our store on the following day was quick and everything arrived in the same condition as it left. If you are looking for someone to move your museum collections  definitely use Jamie Briggs.”
